Origin of the term
[edit]Some evidence that the term 'book of shadows' was used in an account of Anne Bodenham's witchcraft trial at Salisbury in 1653: "According to legend, after the execution her ‘book of shadows’ was burnt, signifying not merely the intrinsic wickedness of such a text but the waywardness of its owner." https://scispace.com/pdf/witchcraft-politics-and-memory-in-seventeenth-century-1r5ct761fi.pdf ps. The source cited in that link refers to Tales of Witches and Sorcery, which uses the term without itself citing an historical source. Shtove (talk) 09:40, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
